Nobody on our crews climbs a roof at 8,000 feet in January for a trophy. We do it because it’s our valley, and these are our neighbors’ homes. But when manufacturers and industry groups from across the country look at our work and single it out, that’s outside proof that the details we obsess over are worth it.
Here are the awards Umbrella has earned over the past few years, and the real mountain homes behind each one.

DaVinci honors a small group of its Masterpiece Contractors each year for excellence in installation, visual impact, and how dramatically the roof transforms the home. Our 2023 winner was a custom home in Avon, high on Beaver Creek Mountain.

The homeowner had cedar shake. The goal was a synthetic roof with a Class A fire-rated assembly that kept the look of natural shake and could stand up to life that high on the mountain. I cover how that switch works in my post on replacing failing cedar shake.

A year after that Beaver Creek Mountain home won DaVinci’s Project of the Year, it won again. In Rocky Mountain Snow Guards’ first national Show Us Our Snow Guards contest, it took the Grand Prize for Outstanding Residential Project. One roof, two national awards: one for the roof itself, one for the snow retention system that protects everything below it.

In the same 2024 contest, our copper roof in Vail was named Runner Up for Most Impressive Snow Guard System Project. It combines copper shingles, standing seam, a turret, and radius copper gutters, with copper snow guards and snow fences designed for the snow load at about 8,500 feet. Every bit of it was built 250 steps above the driveway. The full story is in my post on copper roofs in the Colorado mountains.

RoofersCoffeeShop, one of the largest online communities in the roofing industry, named Umbrella its R-Club Roofer of the Month in August 2024. I talked about how we run the company, from full-time crews to our 1% Close to Home giving program. A lot of that conversation made it into my list of questions to ask a roofer.

In 2025, we placed again. Our dark bronze RG16 snow guards, installed in soldier rows on a DaVinci Select Shake roof in Arrowhead, earned a Runner Up award. It’s a cut-up roof with a lot of planes and valleys, exactly where a careful layout matters. I break down the soldier row pattern in my post on snow guard spacing.

Village Walk Townhouse Association & Vail Resorts Beaver Creek, Colorado

Large re-roof project involving 12 large duplex buildings at the top of Beaver Creek ski area.

Umbrella Roofing worked with the homeowners association and Vail Resorts to complete this project ahead of schedule and under budget.

This project won the National Project of the Year for DaVinci Roofscapes, marking our first nationally recognized project!!

Not every great roof enters a contest. Some of our proudest work is on multi-unit communities, like Alpine Club and One Arrowhead Place in Edwards, where we installed thousands of snow guards in soldier rows over busy walkways and entries, and Buckhorn at Bachelor Gulch, the HOA re-roof that launched our Vail Valley team. You can read that story in my post on HOA roof replacement.

What these awards have in common

Look at these projects together and you’ll see a pattern. They’re complex, steep, cut-up roofs on mountain homes and buildings. The snow retention was engineered for the site, not added as an afterthought. And they were built by our own full-time crews, with custom metal from our own shop.

That’s not a coincidence. It’s the work we like best, and it’s the work we’re built for.
