What Makes Mountain Roofing Different?
Roofing in the Rocky Mountain resort communities isn't like roofing anywhere else. Heavy, wet snow loads stress roof structures and gutters in ways lowland systems were never designed to handle. Rapid freeze-thaw cycles push moisture under shingles and into seams that would stay dry at lower elevations.
Ice dams are one of the biggest culprits behind winter roof damage here. When heat escapes through the attic and melts snow near the ridge, that water refreezes at the colder eaves, builds up, and backs under the roofing material. Add high-altitude UV exposure, which breaks down roofing materials faster than at sea level, and it's clear why a roof built for Denver or the Front Range won't necessarily hold up in Vail or Aspen.
