Jake Borah is a fifth-generation native of Colorado's Eagle Valley. His family has called this valley home for well over a century, and he has spent more than 30 years putting roofs on it. Today he's one of the company's three owners.

Jake started roofing in 1993, working alongside his father in the family roofing business. Those early years gave him his foundation: how to do the work right, how hard the work really is, and how much it matters to take care of the people whose homes you’re working on. It’s a standard he still holds every crew to.

Building Umbrella in the Vail Valley

In 2010, Jake joined Umbrella Roofing, where founder Trevor Cannon gave him the opportunity to help grow the company. When a major HOA re-roof came up at Buckhorn Townhomes in Bachelor Gulch, Trevor asked Jake and Josh Yandle if they were ready to “burn the bridge” and commit fully to building Umbrella in the Vail Valley. They were.

Working side by side, Jake and Josh built the Vail and Eagle Valley division from a 1,200-square-foot garage into a full second market. As it grew, the two had the opportunity to become owners, and they were proud to take it. Deric Barton later joined them as a partner, and in December 2025 the three bought the remaining market, bringing both valleys under their ownership.

What Jake does today

As Production Manager for Umbrella’s Vail division, Jake is responsible for how every roof actually gets built. With more than three decades in the trade, he brings deep knowledge of roofing, of the Eagle Valley, and of what it takes to build a roof that holds up to heavy snow, intense sun, and big temperature swings at altitude.

Recognition

Jake was the voice of Umbrella’s 2023 DaVinci Roofscapes Project of the Year, a custom home high on Beaver Creek Mountain where the team replaced cedar shake with a DaVinci roof built as a Class A fire-rated assembly. As he explained, the homeowner wanted the look of shake with the protection that location demands. (See Jake explaining the project in the video below.)

Off the roof

Outside of work, Jake’s life revolves around his family and the outdoors. He is grateful to have built his career in the valley he has always called home, and he takes pride in the fact that the roofs his crews build protect his neighbors’ homes.
