Managing Partner Umbrella Roofing
Josh Yandle
Co-owner, Umbrella Roofing | Eagle, Colorado
Josh Yandle was born and raised in Eagle, Colorado, and he has spent his entire roofing career with Umbrella. He started in the spring of 2010 as a laborer in the field. Today he’s one of the company’s three owners.
From the field to ownership
A few months into the job, Josh started working alongside longtime roofing veteran Wayne Long on service and repair projects. He spent about a year learning the trade side by side with Wayne, whom he still calls “the Chuck Norris of roofing.”
About two years in, Josh began estimating for Umbrella’s founder, Trevor, starting with service work and partial replacements before moving into an estimating role in the Aspen market. There he built his knowledge of roofing, sales, customers, and the business itself.
Then came Buckhorn. When a major HOA re-roof opened up at Buckhorn Townhomes in Bachelor Gulch, Trevor asked Josh and Jake Borah if they were ready to “burn the bridge” and commit fully to building Umbrella in the Vail Valley. They rented a 1,200-square-foot garage, launched the Vail Valley operation, and grew it into a second major market over the next five years.
Josh and Jake later bought that side of the company, with Deric Barton joining them as a partner. In December 2025, the three bought the remaining market from Trevor, bringing both valleys back together under their ownership.
What Josh specializes in
Josh is at his best on the roofs other contractors pass on: steep, cut-up, highly detailed custom roofs on mountain homes and multi-unit communities. His work centers on:
- Composite shake and slate, especially DaVinci Roofscapes
- Engineered snow retention, including soldier row snow guard layouts
- Copper and custom sheet metal from Umbrella’s in-house shop
- HOA and condo association re-roofs across the Vail and Roaring Fork Valleys
Off the roof
For Josh, the best part of Umbrella has always been the people. He’s watched crew members who started young, like Alex and Jose, grow into leaders, build careers, and raise families alongside the company. He helps lead Umbrella’s 1% Close to Home giving program, from surprise re-roofs for neighbors in need to community bike builds that have put more than 1,000 bikes in the hands of local first and second graders. And he’ll tell you some of his favorite memories are company trips, Rockies games, go-karting, BBQs, Habitat builds, and family days at Glenwood Caverns.
