Deric Barton
DCo-owner and Managing Member, Umbrella Roofing | Western Slope, Colorado
Deric Barton is a fourth-generation local with deep roots on Colorado's Western Slope. He was born and raised here, and he knows the region the way only a lifelong local can: its homes and businesses, its weather, and what a roof really has to handle at altitude. Today he's one of the company's three owners.
A career built on solving problems
For nearly two decades, Deric has built his career around one idea: listen to the customer, understand the real problem, and find a solution that lasts. He joined Umbrella Roofing in 2011, working out of the company’s Pitkin County office, and brought that approach to every project he touched.
From partner to Managing Member
When Josh Yandle and Jake Borah bought Umbrella’s Vail Valley division, Deric joined them as a partner and quickly became an integral part of the ownership team. In early 2021, he became Umbrella’s Managing Member. And in December 2025, Deric, Josh, and Jake bought the remaining market from founder Trevor Cannon, bringing both valleys together under their ownership.
Deric’s hands-on experience and regional knowledge have shaped how Umbrella works with customers, from the first consultation through the final walkthrough.
What roofing means to Deric
To Deric, roofing is about more than protecting a building. It’s about serving neighbors. Every customer’s situation is different, and the right answer for one home isn’t always right for the next. He believes in understanding each customer’s needs first, then recommending the solution that makes sense for Colorado’s demanding mountain conditions, and standing behind it for the long haul.
That’s why Deric puts so much weight on relationships. In a place this small, the people you roof for are the people you see around town, and trust is earned one project at a time.
Off the roof
Outside of work, Deric loves spending time outdoors and celebrating the Western Slope’s Western heritage. He and his wife are raising their three daughters in the community he is proud to call home.
