I don’t really have much more to say on this, just really wanted to include this picture of the ice dam/icicle (more like a stalactite) on the house across the street from mine.
Umbrella Roofing was the roofing contractor for this 100 yr old house. It really is a beautiful roof under all of that snow and ice. This ice dam is caused primarily by heat radiating from inside the house and through the roof. We know for a fact there is no insulation in that roof. We recommended insulating the roof as well as a heat tape/gutter system to keep things flowing, however, the homeowner has opted to live with the current situation for now.
In the meantime I’ll be sure to keep my children from playing near this house!
